35 Ct. Diamonds Expected to Fetch More Than $7 Million at Christie's
A pair of unmounted, round, brilliant-cut D Flawless diamonds, weighing 35.77 and 35.61 cts., are expected to fetch $7 million–$9 million each at Christie’s Magnificent Jewels sale in Hong Kong on Nov. 29.
The diamonds were discovered in South Africa and cut by the Steinmetz Diamond Group. They were exhibited by Steinmetz at the Guggenheim in New York City in December 2010, and showcased at the launch of Forevermark in India in April as the largest pair of diamonds to bear Forevermark's inscription.
Also up for auction: a Harry Winston emerald and diamond brooch, which is expected to rake in $2 million–$3 million. According to Christie’s, Winston offered a Texas oil man and his wife the choice between a 68.90 ct. emerald or a 69.42 ct. pear-shaped diamond. The wife chose the emerald, and the diamond was subsequently acquired by Elizabeth Taylor, after which it would be known as Taylor-Burton Diamond .
