GUJCOST-DST Gujarat initiated a programme to take nanotech to schools

Gandhinagar: We believe that nanotechnology is the next great technology wave, the nexus of scientific innovation and revolutionizes most industries and indirectly affects the fabric of society –says the experts of nanotechnology in an interaction session with school students at Staff Training College, Gandhinagar today.

Inaugurating a one-day seminar on "Nanotechnology to nano-scientists" Shri Akshaya Saxena, Mission Director, Gujarat State Biotechnology Mission expressed that 'nanotechnology is based on a very basic foundation of the basic sciences which is all set to revolutionize the present century'.

 'Just as silicon transistors replaced old vacuum tube technology and enabled the electronic age, carbon nanotube devices could open a new era of electronics and applied sciences in the near future' .

'Science is the driving force and the students are the real change makers. Our younger students should be prepared with interest and aptitude so that they can handle the technology like they are getting familiar with the present 3G enabled mobile phone features – says Shri Saxena.

Nanotech Future Fashion

The folks from Japanese research collaboration Life BEANS yesterday displayed their nanotech fiber clothes at the Micromachine/ MEMS exhibition at Tokyo Big Sight. On display was a dress that incorporated nanotechnology which can be used to heat or cool the wearer, and ultimately allow the whole dress to become an electrical device itself.

BEANS or Bio Electomechanical Autonomous Nano Systems, is a collaboration project between a number of universities and science institutes throughout Japan and are the same team responsible for the glowing glucose tracking mouse ear . The technology on display yesterday incorporates a new fabrication process that allows more flexible layers of conductive cells within clothes. Woven into dresses or protective vests, for example, mean that the wearer can be cooled or heated depending on the temperature by activating the nanocells and also enable the transference of electronic data through the clothes themselves....

[MEMS Exhibition 2011] BEANS demonstrate Nanotech fiber clothes ...

BEANS Research Institute is the organization to follow in Japan for cutting edge technology! At MEMS Japan 2011, BEANS introduces many interesting tech all related to Nanotechnology usage in our everyday fabrics.

Among the very cool project introduces by BEANS at MEMS 2011, we stumble upon two very nice integration of Nanotech in clothes fabric like this keyboard (picture above) embedded in your average tissue and capable to take whatever shape and size, allowing to virtually build any kind of keyboard or keypad on pretty much everything and everywhere.

Or like this very interesting approaches to embedded solar cells that can be implemented directly to tissues/fabric or be “glued” upon any fabric.
