There is a diamond that is J in color, SI2 clarity, select ideal cut, and 1.52 carats. It is going for 2,911, oval cut and egl cert. Is this diamond acceptable? My gf wants a bigger diamond and this is in my spending limits. Please advise!
Umm i think your gf should be happy with whatever ring you decide, if she loves you the ring shouldnt matter, nor should the price. buy the affordable ring and if she has any problems with it than theres something wrong with her!

I have been shopping for a diamond for my girlfriend...i went to a couple places and its down to three choices... si2 means that the inclusions can be seen under 10x magnification but are not visible to the naked eye With regards to the colour both G and I are classed as near colorless so you are not going to notice the difference unless you really make an effort to. The 1.02 carat stone
1. .9 carat round, G color, Vs2, with an ideal cut - $5000
2. 1 carat oval, D color, Vs1, Ideal cut - $6000

An Insight On Cushion Cut Diamond Engagement Rings | Mining 101
Finding elegantly cut and designed cushion cut diamond rings was relatively impossible till a few decades back. Estate sales and auctions were where most of them could be seen and they were out of reach of the common man. They were reserved for the elite and luxury class and thus had exorbitant pricing too. However, now it is easier to find these exquisite rings at really affordable rates because thankfully the trends have changed. As a matter of fact, they have been made more feasible as various sizes and styles have been developed. Thus they are no longer reserved for one part of the society.
One of the most antique cuts, which is said to be a blend or cross of the contemporary Oval Cut and the Old Mine Cut, is used for the derivation of cushion cut diamond rings. A typical deep cut diamond having large facets signifies the Old Mine Cut. During the late 19th century and the early 20th century, this cut became most common. Candlelight diamond and the pillow-cut are some other names given to the Oval cut which is more modern and contemporary in comparison. It is designed to represent older times where instead of electric lights; candles gave light only through candles....
What Are Oval-Cut Diamonds and Why Do Celebrities Like Them So ...
Oval diamonds have beautiful brilliance that is similar to that of round diamonds. The popularity of these diamonds is also from the fact that they accentuate long fingers because of their length. The history of the oval cut is easy to track since this is a relatively young diamond cut. The first oval shape was created in the late 1950s and the early 1960s by Lazare Kaplan . Today’s oval diamond cut produces a fiery diamond that has great brilliance, making such diamonds the ideal selections for people who loves the sparkle characteristic of round cuts, but who desire less common shapes.
When buying a diamond with an oval cut, go for a high grade cut and color. You should also consider the other 4Cs of grading a diamond, meaning the clarity and the carat weight. Most jewelers have minimum recommendations when it comes to buying these diamonds. These are a cut that is ‘good’, color that is ‘G’, clarity that is ‘S12′, depth percentage between 58% and 66%, and a table of between 51% and 64%.
